A core idea behind Musik Klub (which SERMONS! is just one aspect of) has been the creative collaboration of like minds. So today, I’m introducing a new perk for paid subscribers, a guest column where a subscriber picks a SERMON! and drops a link to a project they’re working on, or something they find worth letting us all know about. This one links back to last Friday’s Biz Markie post, as an extra bonus.
How do you persuade a thousand dogs to walk into a fire? As I write, The Foreign Office is said to be "studying all possibilities."
How do you persuade two people to join a reading club? Your girl at the border is known to be "studying all strategies of sound."
Hi, I'm Kendra. This is my guest column. I'm not exactly studying all strategies of sound. But the sounds I'm studying, are strategically sound. Here are three songs I listen to that share a sample. I'm not going to try to persuade a thousand dogs to walk into a fire, but I will willingly try to persuade myself to run 30km in the hot Chihuahuan Desert, as I did in 2020, several mental-health phase realities ago, a time of superior joint-cartilage and inferior viruses.
There's a point in a long run where you have to get up at 5 am to get to the starting line. Maybe you have to drive a highway, and the sky is black. Your velocity is the same as the sun rising over the horizon. It's a moment in love.
There's a point in a long run - a run decorated with the beauty of the desert - where your speed will be one Biz Markie per mile. Your speed will be unique. What's better: a good beat or glorious sun? Graduates of hip-hop university can comment below.
There's a point in a long run where your speed will be one DJ Screw per mile. I need someone to pick me up and drive me home. If it's 2007 and we stop at a gas station on 290, I'll probably buy Dr. Pepper instead of a screw tape. Cold chills.
How do you persuade one or two readers to join a reading club? Please check it out here. See you soon. - Kendra
And there you are, folks. A three act play, if you will. Go check out those reading groups too, never stop learning about new ideas.
SERMONS! is brought to you by Jamie Ward, a multidisciplinary artist currently in Texas. You can also find me on Twitter and Instagram.
