I Have to Go Now, My Planet Needs Me
The Icicle Works - Bird Fly (Whisper to a Scream) ( 1984 / College Rock )
Hello internet pals of music. Today we’re sending things into the weekend with a Beggar’s Banquet nostalgia flood by yet another band that could’ve been bigger…
I don’t write like I used to.
I don’t know that I do anything like I used to. And I’m not referring to some long ago time.
I’m referring to last year. Last month. Last week.
SERMONS! is reader-supported. There are both free and paid subscriptions. If you’re wishing to support my work, I encourage you to become a paid subscriber.
We are we are we are
but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are we are we are
Rather helpless
Take us forever
A whisper to a scream
The chorus speaks to me, ahem sings to me, because it will never feel untrue. Who prepares you for these things, that they’re all ok and that we all feel lost and rather helpless, or that it all takes us forever? That all our lives really are is a series of decisions that we’re forced to make and that either shut one door or open another? And that it’s ok to spend our whole lives figuring out who we are, how we are? And that we are basically living Voltrons, combined of tiny little cells all programmed for obsolescence, and that we essentially mirror these billions of tiny lives and deaths in an exponential form?
Life takes forever, but only because of our dumb egos. Life, individual life, only takes a second really. So who cares what you were supposed to be or supposed to do. By merely living, you’ve accomplished exactly all you were meant to.
SERMONS! is brought to you by Musik Klub. You can also find Jamie on Twitter and Instagram, if that’s your thing. Like what you’re hearing? Help spread the word!
