Imaginary Theme for a Very Large Cat
Masabumi Kakuchi Sextet - スカイ・ウォズ・フォーリング (1969/Soul Jazz)
Hello internet pals of music. Today I want you to imagine yourself as a large round cat, walking down a street of market stalls, with all the vendors giving you treats. You’re a king / queen today.
If I were Punxsutawney Phil, then Len’s Steal My Sunshine would be my shadow. If I hear it on the radio, then summer has officially arrived, otherwise six more weeks of Vancouver rain, otherwise known as a bunch of bullshit.
No stations seem to be playing Steal My Sunshine this year.
I won’t here, either. No one wants that (although when you hear that echoey granite block kick it off, you secretly enjoy it, and you can admit that here).

Instead, we’re going to pretend it’s early Spring again. Many of us would like that I’m sure, instead of stroking out in this enormous global heatwave nightmare. This is a theme song for you (and I cant emphasize this enough) to imagine yourself reincarnated as giant, Japanese tuxedo cat. Imagine Ignatius J Reilly with four legs and a taste for fish bones like in a Looney Tunes cartoon.
Eventually, your adventures in prancing heavily, with your fat little cat head held high, will lead you back home to a perfect little cardboard box in a perfect little sun spot and you’ll plop down full of fish and chicken scraps and dream about belly rubs and chasing butterflies.
God, I would love to be a fat, well-loved cat.
SERMONS! is brought to you by Musik Klub. You can also find Jamie on Twitter and Instagram, if that’s your thing. Like what you’re hearing? Help spread the word!

Followed your instructions. Enjoyed the catstroll through the food stalls. First tune of the morning, great start to the day.
