Hello internet pals of music. Today we’re celebrating Gary Floyd, who passed away this week.
“Hate The Police” is one of the all-time greatest American punk singles. One of the greatest Texas punk moments. And one of the best ACAB songs there has ever been.
So not only is it fitting to remember singer and punk hero Gary Floyd with their greatest song, it serves as a reminder that power never changes as we’re seeing on university campuses across the US, like The University of Texas in the Dicks’ hometown Austin.

Gary Floyd, a true Texan. The kind of Texan so unique, big and bold, that fellow unique, big and bold Texans Butthole Surfers wrote a song about.
How tough do you have to be in 1980s Texas to be queer, punk and in dress singing:
Dicks hate policemen and it’s true You can’t find justice, it’ll find you
Gary Floyd is the kind of Texan that I want the world to think of when people think about what makes Texas so…Texan.
And as a B-side, here’s the other greatest Texas punk songs about the cops.

Musik Klub: “Everythang’s Workin”
Wow! Lived in Houston for 45 years until 2005. I remember all of this well.
Gil Scott Heron's 1978 song for Joe Campos Torres, visible on the AK47 YouTube vid, was known to many of us. This isn't Gil's best work, but close. RIP JCT and Gil.
