Hello internet pals of music. Today’s song doesn’t even need an intro. DJ Screw RIP.
Do you feel like you’ve lived today already?
I don’t wanna do that. Opposite; I wanna live elsewhere, like in this song’s strange, drippy imaginary future. All futures are imaginary, but I’m thinking more of the kind of imaginary where electric blue moss creeps down rocks, neon green carpets of mysterious foliage cover everything, the sun twinkles multi-hued through the trees and a Delta 88 drips a slug trail of red candy paint as it casually rolls towards me, its tires possibly floating a bit above the ground.
I wanna live in a time where you don’t want time to exist.

DJ Screw is a time bandit. Stretches it. Snaps it back.
Sure, there’s the symbiosis between the drugs and the music. But I’ve always felt that there was as much to do with the heat. Not like a heatwave, but like the heat that blankets you foreverrrrr the closer you are to the equator. The kind of syrupy warmth that stretches time into a wisp and you know you have to slow your heart rate down to exist within its embrace. So it does feel a bit off to me when I hear Screw in say, Canada, at a veggie burrito shop.
But hey, everyone deserves DJ Screw and I’d be uncool if I denied anyone that.
