Stereolab—Escape Pod (From the World of Medical Observations)(Space Pop / 1999)
Hello internet pals of music. Today we’re blasting off this blue marble with one of my favourite bands of all time…again.
I’m trying to work on showing up. I promised to be here to help provide spiritual armor in times of need, and every day is a time of need. We are all future veterans of The Psychic Wars.
SERMONS! is reader-supported. If you’re wishing to support our work, I encourage you to become a subscriber. Otherwise, we’ll all probably forget about this thing.
But there’s no way that I can or would send these out every day. Like, for real, who wants that. Your inbox is already full of words you don’t want about stuff you won’t buy.
Instead, let’s nuke this pop stand—and by nuke, I mean forget about the physical realm of this giant space rock and accelerate our particles into the cosmic flow of the universal space dust from which all life is borne.
As for the “pop stand”, I don’t even know where that comes from, and apparently no one else does either—could be a Humphrey Bogart quote, could be an urban legend having to do with a Jamaican wanting to establish world dominance via radiated popsicles, or could even refer to a mysterious cult who planned to bomb popsicle stands.
I dunno, dude. It’s a weird world.
