Hello internet pals of music. Today we lament a recent loss with a great song by 80s Winnipeg punk band, that isn’t actually on the re-release I just picked up.
So yesterday two men came and chopped down one of the trees in the backyard. For context, backyards with trees are a luxury for many where I am, and the three that lined the back of our little sanctuary courtyard do a fantastic job of sheltering the cozy nook from the harsh vibes that sometimes trickle in from the surrounding, frayed edges of one of Canada’s most infamous postal codes.

Thee flip side though is that now there is access to skylight, particularly on a nice, sunny day like today has started out as, and maybe the timing is just right because the changing of the seasons and the new light an the empty swath of sky just might make it feel ok to be alive in dark suite in a stupidly expensive patch of houses next to the most infamous postal code in Canada.
But for all the love of light, I feel a bit of loss for my giant green friend that was a canopy, from the eyes of neighbors I’ll never know, and from the constant spittle of winter rain as I stood out by the front door for one last cigarette that never really sees to be the end.
All that’s left is a stump.
