Hello internet pals of music. Today we’re being strategic and timely by collecting a few song about the sun, nihilism-style.
Hmm. It seems as if today there is some sort of big astronomical occurrence.
People have evidently travelled to witness it! In some places, hotels have been booked solid for months in advance! American fundamentalists have even been on the news circuit / twitter yapping about the Rapture (but not The House of Jealous Lovers)!
It’s all kinds of Night of The Comet style kooky.
I live in Space City™, where the clouds have conspired against us. So, instead of accidentally burning our corneas out, we’ll have to settle for 4 minutes of darker skies.
Still cool, I guess.
SERMONS! is reader-supported. If you’re wishing to support our work, I encourage you to become a subscriber. Otherwise, we’ll all probably forget about this thing.
Anyway, here are some songs about the sun going dark!
Will you remember where you were when the Rapture began? It starts around 12:30 pm CST.
Epilogue:
A few months ago, I contributed a sound art / synth composition to a project called Sound of the Sun, where I imagined the sun imploding and releasing its gasses across the galaxy. In homage to Canadian sound artist John Oswald, I mashed up some of these songs (along with a few others about the sun) to compose the first half.
SERMONS! is brought to you by Musik Klub. You can also find Jamie on Twitter and Instagram, if that’s your thing. Like what you’re hearing? Help spread the word!

Best eclipse related playlist I’ve seen! I think this is the first time I’ve seen Radio Birdman and Cirith Ungol connected together, but I hope it won’t be the last!
A few years ago Portland and Oregon had the full eclipse (I think it was 100% in Central Oregon). You may have been in Vancouver, BC at the time?
And, a Loop sighting! Now, here's a question...Spacemen3 or Loop? Or, best, no comparison or competition between the two dronesters. 😊
Enjoy the eclipse!
