A little editor’s note: I’ve got some things I’m taking care of at the moment so for the next little while my little musical check-ins will likely be sporadic, or at the very least, a lot less wordy.
Gonna throw down a gauntlet here. Dead Boys second album is better than their revered first. Better writing, better playing.
Felix Pappalardi (bass player of Mountain, producer of Cream’s Disraeli Gears) certainly was not the right choice of producer. He didn’t understand the music, and I guess had lost a lot of hearing from the loud volume playing with Mountain.
The greatest problem with this album is the mix. Cheetah Chrome is practically missing. And that’s a travesty.
There are so many good songs on this album. Sucks it wasn’t handled better because it the collection deserves much better, and probably could’ve been a breakout album and maybe even led to a third Dead Boys album.
But we did get Lords of the New Church from the wake of Dead Boys, so that’s a plus.
Like what I’m doing here? Let me know by suggesting it to someone else that may like it. Not into this song? Stick around for the next one, it may be what you didn’t know you needed! Remember, there are only two genres of music here at SERMONS!: good and bad, and I have too much to do to waste time on bad music.
