Hello internet pals of music. You know it’s black History Month and what we’re about. So, this month let’s get into it.
Died at 26.
That’s a very young man. That’s younger than Robert Johnson. Younger than Kurt Cobain. And no real rock n roll reason, death wish way for it to happen like it did. Plane crash, along with almost all of the members of The Bar-Kays, who Redding had brought on tour as his backing band.
Pretty hard to come up with a better voice. One of pop music’s sad tragedies that Redding was on the cusp of real stardom when he died.
But, he lives forever and ever.
SERMONS! is reader-supported. There are both free and paid subscriptions. If you’re wishing to support my work, I encourage you to become a paid subscriber.
We’re not here to mourn and aren’t writing this to reduce Redding to that same sad tale.
I just want to put action into steps. Plug this into your ears as you’re walking into wherever it is you need to be today. Come in with intention as if you’re telling the world, “What, you’ve never seen a sunrise before?”
SERMONS! is brought to you by Musik Klub. You can also find Jamie on Twitter and Instagram, if that’s your thing. Like what you’re hearing? Help spread the word!
