Here are some fun stats, all nicely laid out in a screenshot. This is Substack helping me! Analytics! What you’ll see is that Sermons! doesn’t get any traction from reposting on our instagram, or twitter, or (the best part) Substack’s own directory, where Sermons! has never ranked anywhere better than like, #125 on their music newsletter directories, despite there only being a handful of music newsletters when Sermons! was started two and half years ago. My point being, the future of this silly little musical / rambling venture is up to word of mouth. It really only gets new ears / eyes because of other newslettter recommendations, or the occasional cross-promotion playlist, like the one we recently did for Revival Cycles. The truth is, I can let this thing die on the vine and it would’ve already served it’s purpose: some great music was found and shared, and is now archived until the techbro-lord goofballs pillage the remaining bones of the internet dream-carcass and nothing remains except a heap of dead ones and zeroes. But Sermons! is also for you, dear ear-spelunkers, and I want to keep the spirit of exploring (and rambling) alive, as an antidote to all the shitsville bullshit that is the modern age. So this is a combined poll and plea: should we keep this dream alive + will you please help water this plant?
I do read and listen to your posts. There's a lot of exciting stuff going on at Substack and otherwise, but I usually get a kick out of whatever you have to share. Thanks for that
